Research Stays

ACGO offers Master’s students the opportunity to undertake a research stay at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The programme is particularly aimed at students in International Relations and Political Science, International Law, Computer Science and Data Science, and related disciplines.

Research stays are usually connected to an individual research project, in particular a Master’s thesis. Where there is a suitable thematic fit, this can be connected with ongoing ACGO research projects.

Application

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please send a short CV, your preferred period of stay, and a research proposal of approximately 1–2 pages to . The proposal should outline the research question, theoretical or conceptual approach, methodology, and proposed data or source corpus. Following an initial review, suitable applicants will be invited to discuss their project and the organisation of the research stay.

Funding and Organisation

Several funding routes may be available for research stays at ACGO. Subject to the availability of funding, ACGO may in individual cases be able to provide limited financial support, for example towards travel or other expenses associated with the research stay. For students enrolled at European universities, an Erasmus+ Traineeship    funded through the home institution will usually be the primary option. As the host institution, ACGO supports the preparation of the Learning Agreement and provides academic supervision.

Depending on nationality, student status, and the proposed research project, additional funding may be available through DAAD   , the applicant’s home institution, or other national and international mobility programmes. Early applications (ca. six months in advance) are encouraged, as eligibility requirements and deadlines vary between funding schemes.

EUNPDC Research Internships

For research projects related to arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament, additional funding opportunities are available through the    EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC)   . ACGO is a member of the European EUNPDC network and is able to host limited research interns under the programme. EUNPDC internships last for up to three months and combine integration into research projects with independent academic work.

Applicants should indicate in their application whether and what funding they are seeking.
